We have a General Meeting schedule planned for the year.
It is subject to change, so please consult The Grapevine or this Programs and Events tab.
Board Meetings are the first Wednesday of the month at
11:00am at St. Joan of Arc Church in Orleans.
General Meetings have changed to the second Tuesday of each month.
Hours, 10:00-1:00 Meetings start at 10:30 Programs start at 11:15
Our NEW Meeting location is The Cape Cod Museum of Natural History, Rt 6A, Brewster.

October "Peonies - Flowers of Exquisite Beauty" by Master Gardener Kathi Gariepy
Peonies are one of the longest-lived perennial flowers. In this talk we will look at the history of the peony, the different types of peonies- woodland, herbaceous, tree and intersectional, how to best grow these beauties and how to transplant and divide. From single flowered goblets to hundreds of petals per flower, peonies are the fragrant staple of the early summer garden.
Kathi has been a Master Gardener for more than 25 years, president of her garden club twice. She currently is the lead teacher for the Massachusetts Horticultural Society, Education Coordinator for Mass Audubon and is chair of the Conservation Commission in my town. She has received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Massachusetts Master Gardener Association and a silver medal from the Massachusetts Horticultural Society.
Kathi owns Pleasant Vistas, a garden design company.
November Thanksgiving Tabletop Workshop - Cornucopia (Goat's Horn Basket)
We will enjoy decorating our symbolic baskets with flowers, fruits, vegetables and greens.
The Cornucopia represents abundance and nourishment. This traditional motif dates back to ancient Greece and symbolizes an abundant supply of good things!

Maria Von Brincken, principle of Maria Von Brincken Landscape Garden Design, is an award-winning certified designer celebrating over 30 years in professional practice. Maria specializes in beautiful earth-friendly landscapes and colorful flower gardens using native plants. Her designs have been featured in Fine Gardening Magazine, Landscape Ideas You Can Use, Front Yard Idea Book, and others.
The slide lecture will present design concepts and techniques to create your own garden.

April Steve Flack, Master Gardener "All about Herbs"
Steven's herb garden features more than 60 varieties, arranged in both formal and cottage style. The fruit and vegetable garden showcases espaliered fruit trees, native fruit trees and raised beds built with traditional peg construction. Steve will lecture on the history of gardening heirloom "herb" and other perennial plants, and traditional cultivation techniques. Come and enjoy this slide show presentation.

Suzanne's book, Flowering Your Mind, expertly weaves her passion as a psychiatric nurse and certified dementia professional and Flower Pressing into a novel approach guiding readers on the connection between brain health and the natural world around us.

Sept 8, 2026 - "Reimagining a Garden from the Past"
Designing the heirloom flower gardens at the Eliijah Cobb House Museum in Brewster, MA
Bob Hoxie, garden designer and horticulturist, presents an informative and colorful program on how he created the heirloom flower gardens at the Elijah Cobb House Museum in Brewster. The gardens are inspired by the diaries of Caroline Ttherton Dugan, a dynamic and articulate young woman who lived and gardened at the Elijah Cobb House in the 1870'S.
Bob has a diverse background in landscape design, fine gardening, historic landscapes and ecological restoration He is owner of Great Hill Horticultural Services and former Associate Director of Historic Landscapes at Plimoth Patuxet Museums. Prior to that he was the Assistant Supervisor of Horticulture on the Cape Cod estate of noted garden designer and philanthropist, Bunny Mellon. He has served as chairman of the Town of Sandwich's Conservation Commission for 10 years and was a founding member and chairman of the town's community preservation committee. His community service and environmental stewardship earned him the Thornton W. Burgess Society's 2007 Conservation Award.

Joan holds a degree in Geology from UMass Amherst and is a Certified Landscape Manager. “Propagating Peennials Workshop” Will increase your perennial collection, replace mature plants, grow varieties that may not be offered for sale, and even produce new hybrids! Learn different propagation skills including growing from seed, cuttings and divisions of a wide range of perennials in the combination lecture and demonstration.

Outdoor guide, Andrea Higgins is an educator and has led many walks for children and adults for a number of conservation commissions on Cape Cod. Andrea will introduce us to a unique way to experience the beauty of the outdoors. This guided mindful experience that she will share will gently invite you to notice all that is around you, engage your senses, and absorb the healing properties of your garden outdoor experiences. We may venture outdoors if whether allows.

A garden consultant’s perspective on helping people to plan perennial and vegetable gardens.
Karen will demonstrate with emphasis on Color, Texture and Form.
Karen has been working in industry for more than fifty years. She owned a flower shop in Chatham over 20 years, was a vendor at the Orleans Farmers Market selling her bread, flowers and veggies and works with her husband in their family landscaping business.

Speaker: Janice Dill from Green Briar Nature Center
The Green Briar Nature Center is a sanctuary of peace and beauty throughout the seasons. It is located on the shores of Smiling Pool and adjacent to the famous Briar Patch of Thornton Burgess’s stories. It is also the home to the Dr. Shirley G. Cross Wildflower Garden and the Green Meadow Forest and Live Menagerie, which has a number of small resident animals… it is a wonderful place to bring the family!

Art in Bloom throughout the Years
DEFINITION
The phrase Art In Bloom is often used as the title of various exhibits held annually, usually in spring, in art museums. The exhibit is composed of traditional visual art pieces and corresponding flower arrangements done by local professional florists and garden club members.
The phrase was created by a Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, volunteer, Lorraine M. Pitts who also helped found the Danforth Museum in Framingham, MA. The original exhibit was held in the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston in 1976, where it is held annually.

NGC ART IN BLOOM
NGC has held SIX Art in Bloom events. Three events were held at the elegant Crosby Mansion and the others at The Church of the Holy Spirit and the Orleans Elementary School
